DESIGN HOW TO: CREATING A PERSONAL INTERIOR

Our goal is to design spaces that are not only beautiful but unique, personal and meaningful to each client. We often work with clients who have difficulty describing the look they want or even finding online images of rooms they like. They can easily describe how they want the home to function but can’t describe how it should look. But when we ask them to describe how they want their home to feel and the mood it should have, we have more luck!

After a few of these key descriptive words from the client – e.g., relaxing, dramatic, bold, edgy, serious, cheerful, etc. – we can begin to assess what will create their desired interior look. By this point, the functional planning part of the project is complete but the development of the look can be a trial and error process. As we present the furnishings, materials, patterns, art, colors, etc. that we believe represent the client’s desired look, we use their feedback to edit the selections until things feel “just right”.

Read along to explore eight of our projects, each with three adjectives that describe the feel, style and mood we created, the elements we used and ultimately, the corresponding look. It’s fun to see how cohesive the look is throughout the entire house!
